Chikusen

They began to create and sell various types of dyed fabrics at the end of the Edo Period (1842).
There were many different dye techniques, but most fabrics for yukatas (summer kimonos) were plain or tie-dyed at that time. Their founder had a connection with a stencil dyeing artisan and thus began dyeing fabrics using stencils. His unique but stylish fabrics gained popularity, and their name, Chikusen, quickly became well-known in Edo, present Tokyo.

In addition, their founder socialized with a wide range of people such as famous actors and men and women of culture. The kimonos made from his fabrics were often worn by actors, and this made his novel designs even more popular. People began purchasing his fabrics as Edo souvenirs, and Chikusen’s name spread throughout Japan.

They are particular about manufacturing products using stencil-dyed fabrics. All fabrics are manually created by their artisans using traditional techniques. All products are made from their original textiles and manufactured in their own factory. They continue to create products using their signature designs.

They produce many different kinds of products from carefully selected fabrics. They create their own materials and dye them. They have made small changes to their traditional designs over the years in order to allow them to fit into modern society. Be sure to check out their highly unique product line.
